John Maher

An award winning and internationally published artist, John began his career when he was 16. His work has been collected and published worldwide, including books, advertising, magazines, and CD covers. His most recent images are about mystical journeys into the natural landscape. The work includes images of gardens, seascapes and river scenes. John lives in Mosier, Oregon, located in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. He lives with his wife Patricia and their two cats and loves flyfishing, road trips and a good book.

Artist's Statement
Growing up around the Pacific ocean, I spent many hours surfing, diving and exploring. Later I took up fly fishing and spent a lot of time researching the rivers and streams of the West. All this time was spent trying to get to know something about my place in the universe.
Water, food, air. These are three things we cannot live without. My first major body of work was about the first substance-water.
My more recent installation projects are about food, in particular, small family farms and sustainable agriculture. The newsletter section has more information about these projects.
